Worth knowing

The two funds are sized differently: the McWilliams pool is $30,000 a year against $25,000. Six months of seniority is required as of the closing date. The union says only that there is a yearly deadline and does not publish the date, so watch the page, not a calendar. Separately, UFCW Canada runs the national Begg's-Dowling-Mathieu award, eighteen at $1,000, which Local 401 members can also enter. Eligible applicants include members and their spouses, children and grandchildren; the sponsoring member needs at least six months of seniority.

About this scholarship

UFCW Local 401 runs two scholarships for members and their immediate families, the Robert McWilliams Memorial Scholarship and the Grant Notley Memorial Scholarship. Both pay $500 to $2,000 and both are applied for through gounion.ca. Your parent, guardian or spouse must be a Local 401 member in Alberta.
