Worth knowing

Two sources give different figures. The school's May 2026 handbook offers 2 bursaries of $500 to $1,000, paid once you show you finished your first year of post-secondary. The branch's 2026 application form sets up to $1,000 for college, vocational or trade school and up to $1,500 for university, as guidelines the branch can adjust. Foothills Composite and Alberta High School of Fine Arts graduates hand the form to the school, where the handbook's general deadline is the last week of June. Students at other schools in the area send it straight to the branch. The branch form itself asks for sections 1 and 2 by September 1. You also book an interview with a branch executive and bring the veteran's service record and a letter on your goals. Only one Legion bursary per student per year, across all branches.

About this scholarship

The Okotoks branch of the Royal Canadian Legion pays bursaries from its Poppy Trust Fund to descendants of veterans who need help with post-secondary costs. Need, family military service, marks, activities, community involvement and related work all count, and the branch also funds students already part way through a program.
