Worth knowing
The medical bar is specific, a documented hearing loss of 50dB or greater in each ear, not just one. Like the Rutherford, this is applied for once you are enrolled rather than while you are still in Grade 12, so a graduating student applies in the year they start post-secondary. Canadian Hearing Services awarded 29 scholarships for the 2025-26 year, to both first-time and returning students, and the money can go to tuition, residence or accessibility services, not tuition alone. The 2026 round closed April 24 and notified winners in July, and the next deadline is unconfirmed. Applicants must be 17 or older. Applicants must have documented hearing loss of at least 50 dB pure tone average in each ear.
About this scholarship
Pays $3,000 to full-time and $1,000 to part-time students, and stays available at the same level for up to four consecutive years. Selection weighs financial and accommodation need alongside community engagement, and Canadian Hearing Services gives additional recognition to Indigenous Deaf and hard of hearing applicants.
