NUPGE Tommy Douglas Scholarship
One of about five $1,500 scholarships the National Union of Public and General Employees awards each year to the children, grandchildren and foster children of its members, decided by essay.
Worth checking whether a parent or grandparent is in AUPE, because AUPE is a NUPGE component and that makes you eligible for a national award almost nobody in Alberta applies for. Foster children of members count too, which is unusual and worth knowing. It is decided on a 750 to 1,000 word essay about how Tommy Douglas made Canada a more just and equitable society, so it rewards writing rather than marks. You have to be entering the first year of a Canadian public post-secondary institution full time.
