NUPGE Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship

NATIONAL
WHO CAN APPLY
Students with disabilities whose parent or grandparent is a NUPGE member

A $1,500 award for students with disabilities entering first year whose parent, grandparent or foster parent belongs to a NUPGE member union, decided on an essay about public services.

Two filters have to line up, and when they do the field is very small: you have a disability, and a parent, grandparent or foster parent belongs to a NUPGE component union, which in Alberta usually means AUPE. The essay is 750 to 1,000 words on why quality public services matter to the quality of life of people with disabilities, so lived experience is the point rather than a disadvantage. Not to be confused with the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award, which is a separate and much larger national program with no union requirement.
