Most polytechnic awards ignore the upgrading classroom entirely. This one says explicitly that upgrading and foundational learning students should be considered, which makes it one of the few open to a student who left high school short of the courses they needed. Northwestern Polytechnic's standard award criteria require two full semesters already completed at NWP, which shuts most of its 359 awards to a student coming straight out of grade 12.
