Worth knowing

This is not the citizenship award of a similar name, and it does not need a school nomination. You apply directly through the GATE Front Office system, and first time users have to email registrationafa@gov.ab.ca at least five business days ahead to get login credentials, so do not leave that to the last week. The application wants a two page letter, a resume, a program description, proof of age, a reference letter and audition materials.

About this scholarship

The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Scholarship for Performing Arts awards $7,000 to one young Alberta performing artist showing extraordinary talent and potential. The discipline rotates on a three year cycle through music, theatre and dance, and the March 1, 2027 round is the music year. You have to be 25 or younger at the deadline, have lived in Alberta for a full year, and be enrolled in an eligible training program: an undergraduate degree with a performing arts focus, a technical or conservatory school, or a recognized mentorship or master class. Graduate programs do not count.
