Worth knowing

Up to eight awards of $5,000, and the program stops taking applications at 60, so apply early. You qualify if you are entering or returning to full-time studies in your first bachelor degree, so a grade 12 student heading into first year is eligible. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and under 29 at the deadline. In the 2026 cycle the portal opened January 20 and closed March 19, and you have to create a user profile before you can apply. Check the program guidelines on the portal for the list of eligible fields of study. Any field counts at a Canadian degree-granting institution or affiliate, but a CEGEP preparatory diploma does not. Applicants may take up to two years after high school or CEGEP before university, provided they take no post-secondary courses during that time.
