Jaydon Sommerfeld Memorial Bursary

In memory of Jaydon Sommerfeld, a Chestermere High student and lacrosse and hockey player who died in a car accident in June 2015 and whose organs went to six strangers. At least four bursaries of $500 are given every year. The criteria say plainly that this is not an academic award and the highest mark does not win it: the committee is looking for kindness, thoughtfulness, personal integrity, love of life and work ethic, the qualities Jaydon showed. The money can go to post-secondary costs or to anything else that gets you to gainful employment.

Read the sports rule before you rule yourself out: intramurals count, and so do jiu jitsu, weight lifting and figure skating. The mark rule is stricter than it looks, though, because the 65 per cent has to hold in each grade twelve subject rather than on average. Applications are emailed to Mr. Bates at mbates@rockyview.ab.ca with the subject line the form specifies, and you are asked for a social insurance number.
