Worth knowing
Black Gold's own division-managed scholarship summary is where the criteria and the date come from, and the date it gives is a bare day with no year, so it repeats. The summary was last updated in April 2025, so confirm the amount with the division before counting on it. Applicants must have attended a Black Gold high school for at least one year, including Grade 12.
About this scholarship
Funded by the estate of Gregory Garth Sylvester and paid in two halves, $500 in September and $500 in February on continued registration. The requirement is specific, acceptance into Bishop's or Queen's University with history as a major area of study, plus a year at a Black Gold high school including grade twelve. The application is a letter of recommendation from a teacher or principal and a short account of why you are pursuing history. The deadline is July 15 of any year after you finish grade 12, so a student who switches into history later can still apply.
