What you'll need

  • Two reference letters from people who have known you at least 6 months
  • A personal letter on how you meet the award criteria
  • An audiogram or medical documentation of hearing loss
  • A statement of grades (unofficial is fine, and myPass works for high school)
  • You may be invited to an interview, with ASL or an interpreter

About this scholarship

The Edmonton Community Foundation awards the Charmaine Letourneau Scholarship to Alberta residents who are deaf or hard of hearing as they enter a post-secondary or vocational program. Applicants must demonstrate financial need and knowledge of sign language, with school and community leadership also considered in selection. Study normally must be in Alberta. Out-of-province study may qualify when the program is unavailable in Alberta or the institution specializes in education for Deaf or Hard of Hearing students.
