Worth knowing
Of the seven awards, only two go to Western Canada, which for CABEF means BC, Alberta, the Territories and Yukon combined. Two more go to Central Canada and three to the East. You must be entering first year, or currently in second or third year. Students in their FINAL year are not eligible, and neither are graduate or professional programs. You must be at least 16 at the time of applying and enrolled full-time in an agriculture or agri-food related undergraduate program, which includes trade school and apprenticeship routes, not degrees alone. Past recipients cannot reapply. Judged on leadership plus a written or video answer to a set question about an emerging issue in Canadian agriculture, so a video is a legitimate alternative to an essay here. The 2026 round closed April 30 with winners notified by May 31. Winners then send proof of enrolment by September 30 and are paid within 30 days. Final-year, graduate and professional students, previous recipients and immediate family of board members do not qualify.
