SCHOLARSHIP GENERAL DEADLINE TBA

AbbVie IBD Scholarship

NATIONAL
WHO CAN APPLY
Students diagnosed with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis

Fifteen one-time awards of $5,000 from Crohn's and Colitis Canada and AbbVie for Canadian students living with Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis.

Explicitly open to students 'enrolled in or awaiting acceptance from' a Canadian university, college or trade school, so a Grade 12 student who has applied but not yet heard back can still enter. Fifteen awards of $5,000, one-time rather than renewable. You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident with a diagnosis of Crohn's or colitis, and there is no age limit. The package is heavier than most: an online application, a proof-of-diagnosis form signed by your healthcare provider, a consent form, TWO recommendation letters and a 500-word essay on wellness, academic goals and community involvement. Judged by a committee of gastroenterologists, community partners and patient representatives. The 2026 deadline was June 15 at 11:59 p.m. local time; a widely syndicated press release said June 1, but Crohn's and Colitis Canada's own page says June 15. Verified against crohnsandcolitis.ca on 2026-09-08.
