About this scholarship

The Igbo Cultural Association of Edmonton's essay competition, held with its Biafra Heroes Memorial Celebration, asks for 500 to 1,000 words on a topic set by level; in 2026 high school students wrote on the role of youth in preserving cultural memory in the diaspora. Winners are recognized at the celebration and receive educational awards from the Biafra Heroes Memorial Scholarship Fund.

The 2026 deadline was May 18; the 2027 date here is rolled forward. Essays go by email to programs@icaedmonton.com as a Word or PDF file with your name, age, school and contact details. The association does not publish prize amounts.
