The Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms runs a yearly essay contest in memory of lawyer Brandon Langhjelm, with prizes of $3,000, $2,000 and $1,000 for essays on Canadian freedom issues.

The 2026 topics are social media restrictions for youth, or safety and privacy in AI chatbots. Essays run 1,200 to 1,500 words and are uploaded through the online form by 11:59 p.m. on September 27, 2026. Strong entries engage with thinkers and theories and end with practical policy proposals. You must be 15 to 25 on the deadline.
