Worth knowing

Run by Federated Co-operatives and the Co-op Retailing System across Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. The scholarship pays $2,000 to $4,000 a year toward your degree or diploma, up to $16,000, and comes with paid summer internships for up to three years on the Agro team at a local Co-op. Graduates may be offered a full-time job with a signing bonus. A conditional letter of acceptance counts, so Grade 12 students heading into agriculture can apply, and first-year entrants can send their transcript later. Interviews start in mid to late November. Finalists may face a background check and a substance test.

What you'll need

  • Proof of enrolment or a conditional letter of acceptance
  • A resume
  • A transcript, which first-year entrants can send later
  • Two reference letters, at least one from a work supervisor
  • A 500-word essay or a video on co-ops in their community, the future of farming in Western Canada, or your best coach or teacher
  • An interview for finalists, from mid November
